The Walking Dead season 8 Episode 14: Carl's letter, our verdict

A few hours after the release of a new episode of season 8 of The Walking Dead, discover our verdict of "Still Gotta Mean Something" and attention to spoilers.

Last night episode 14 of season 8 of The Walking Dead was airing on AMC so it's time to discover our verdict of "Still Gotta Mean Something" . As is often the case in The Walking Dead , the approach of the end of the season involves quite a bit of filling and that's what we were all right for this episode . Evidently it advances the plot, but at the cost of many smaller intrigues that end or start a little messy way. Too much in any case to capture our attention throughout the episode - which in addition lasts longer than usual. At Hilltop Rick tries to mourn but prefers to push back his feelings and ignore Carl's letter despite Michonne's advice.

It must be said that Rick has always had trouble managing the deaths of his loved ones. Be it after Shane and the dictatorship that he imposed next, after Lori and a jump in madness, or after the deaths of Glenn and Abraham and the submission they brought. This time Rick takes advantage of escaped Saviors to let out his rage and found in Morgan the perfect companion . Henry's disappearance continues to push Morgan into his entrenchments and Carol's touching words do nothing about it. Whether Michonne or Carol, we see how women manage mourning more thoughtfully and positively - unless the writers simply do not take the time to linger as much as for Rick or Morgan.

After leaving Carol, Morgan falls on Rick, who himself falls on the Saviors he was looking for. Despite their weapons, their number and the fact that Rick and Morgan end up tied up, the Saviors still end up being decimated. It must be said that Rick played them a dirty trick and gets away more and more from Rick that Carl would like him to be. Difficult also to understand his behavior since he tries to remind Morgan that he has saved and that hope is possible while cutting without mercy Saviors ready to repent. After killing Jared - and all the others - and avenging Benjamin, the duo returns to Hilltop. All this intrigue is primarily intended to place Rick to an extreme before he reads Carl's letter and goes back the other way, and allow Morgan to stop seeing dead.

On the side of Carol, things end better than Sophia since she finds Henry alive. What give him a little hope and especially what make us want to see more Carol in the last 2 episodes of season 8 of The Walking Dead . Finally the third major plot comes down to a big frustration. Formerly has many outside contacts with a group with a helicopter, but Negan fails his plan and leaves us on our hunger. We will not know who this other group is and where they are based. One also wonders why Jadis left leaving Negan with weapons and how he was able to light the flare. Why Jadis had not turned on his signal earlier. Or why she had left weapons at hand, or what was meant to serve the attached walker who clearly could not eat anything given the bars crossing his head. In short, the failure of his plan was almost assured.

The information to be drawn from this plot is interesting since Negan reveals its past and in particular the origins of Lucille, and theories on a new group with more advanced technologies are confirmed. But the staging of all this is clumsy and disappointing. The end of the episode shows the return of Negan to the Sanctuary, who wants to keep it secret probably because of the passenger he found on the way . We imagine that he came across Laura, who could tell him that Dwight is a traitor. Negan will be able to take care of Simon and Dwight ...

Meanwhile Rosita and Daryl have decided to eliminate Eugene who makes ammunition for the Saviors. Who from Dwight, Simon or Eugene could die in the future? We bet on Simon ... In short this episode was interesting on the bottom but the form leaves something to be desired. Some scenes are long and full of inconsistency, whereas at two episodes of the end of the season, we imagine that there would have been other more interesting things to show . The touching aspect of intrigue that lingers over the feelings of the characters deserves moreover to have a more important place in the series rather than to be emphasized here and there in only a few episodes.
